John was born and raised in the Portland area and has spent nearly fifteen years working as a registered nurse in pediatric and adult critical care, with a focus on trauma and advanced organ failure. His experience in acute care deepened his understanding of the connection between physical and mental health and ultimately led him to pursue advanced practice in psychiatry. After navigating the foster care system as a parent and witnessing the significant barriers many foster children face in accessing mental health care, John felt called to help address that gap. He completed his post-graduate psychiatric training with clinical experience at Unity Center for Behavioral Health and in outpatient settings serving marginalized communities.

As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), John takes a holistic, collaborative approach to mental health care. He considers the ways physical health, sleep, chronic illness, hormones, and other medical factors can influence mental well-being. John is particularly passionate about working with children, adolescents, and adults navigating trauma, neurodiversity, men's health, healthcare and first responder burnout, complex medical conditions, and LGBTQIA+ mental health. As a gay provider, he values creating an affirming space where clients can feel understood and supported.

John takes a thoughtful and conservative approach to medication management, emphasizing thorough assessment, accurate diagnosis, individualized treatment, and deprescribing when appropriate. He believes the best care happens through collaboration with clients, therapists, primary care providers, and other members of their support system. For John, success is not simply measured by symptom reduction, but by helping clients move toward the things that matter most to them—whether that means thriving at school, finding balance at home, feeling more present, or rediscovering joy.

Outside of work, John lives in Clackamas County with his husband, their son, whom they adopted from foster care, and several rescue pets. He enjoys jogging, playing soccer with his son, hiking and camping in the Cascades, reading, and spending time along the Oregon coast and in Central Oregon.

John works with clients ages 6–65 and provides telehealth and in-person services at our Gladstone office. He prefers to meet in person for initial assessment when possible and offers a flexible blend of in-person and telehealth services to meet you where you are, aross Oregon.
